Living Skills/Vocational Center (ILP)
Handling
the responsibilities of becoming an adult at 18 years of age is difficult for
any youth, especially those teenagers living in foster care or residential homes.
It is important they receive education, training and practice in the essential
skills for living independently.
Aviva's
Independent Living Skills (ILP) has ongoing classes for Aviva residents and youth
from foster care, teaching basic office and computer skills, money management,
apartment hunting and use of public transportation. The
Vocational Center teaches prevocational skills and assists in obtaining a student's
first paying job or internship. Students learn to write a proper resume as well
as interviewing and job search techniques.
An
Aviva resident wishing to pursue secondary education or vocational interests is
given abundant resources and guidance in this area. Several scholarships and funding
sources are available to these students. Notice
