VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Children and teenagers that have been abused or neglected need positive interaction with caring enthusiastic adults. Volunteers with patience and understanding can have a profound effect on the future of these young people. If you have the time and energy to help make a difference in their lives, contact our volunteer coordinator today.

By law, all volunteers must be 21 years of age, fingerprinted and have a Department of Justice Child Abuse background check. Volunteer receive a 2-hour orientation.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Activity Classes are led by volunteers during a six-week session on Monday or Thursday evenings at The Wallis Annenberg Center. Volunteers select the activity class subject to share with six girls. The classes serve a dual purpose - to give the girls experiences unfamiliar to them and exposure and interaction with positive adult role models. Volunteers give the girls opportunities to discover and explore their creativity. Classes have included dance, ceramics, improvisation acting, creative writing, cooking, sewing and yoga.

Homework Tutors assist children in our foster care programs or girls in residence when additional academic support is needed. The one-to-one assistance and encouragement given by a volunteer makes a significant difference in a child's educational success.

Sterling Associates, an auxiliary membership group, is committed to helping Aviva girls at The Wallis Annenberg Center. They organize and fund outings and events for the girls throughout the year. This hands-on group is perfect for adults with limited time to give, but committed to making a difference in the lives of abused, abandoned and neglected teen girls. Membership fee is $25 per year.

S.A.F.E. (Student Aftercare for Enrichment) after-school program utilizes volunteers to provide homework assistance and participate in the recreational activities offered to elementary aged students at Gardner Elementary School in West Hollywood.
