OPPORTUNITIES: Activity
Classes are led by volunteers during a six-week session on Monday or Thursday
evenings at The Wallis Annenberg Center. Volunteers select the activity
class subject to share with six girls. The classes serve a dual purpose - to give
the girls experiences unfamiliar to them and exposure and interaction with positive
adult role models. Volunteers give the girls opportunities to discover and explore
their creativity. Classes have included dance, ceramics, improvisation acting,
creative writing, cooking, sewing and yoga. Homework
Tutors assist children in our foster care programs or girls in residence when
additional academic support is needed. The one-to-one assistance and encouragement
given by a volunteer makes a significant difference in a child's educational success.
